James Carville As The Canary In The Coalmine

The man who made famous the words, “It’s the economy stupid,” in 1992, James Carville came out yesterday that for President Barack Obama, 2012 could very well become a very rough year, and not just also for the reasons of the upcoming United States Presidential election but for reasons of possible civil unrest because of a very weak economy.

From the Daily Caller:”That expression made its way into the campaign in 2008, and according to Carville, it could be the theme of the 2012 campaign as well as President Barack Obama seeks reelection. In an appearance on Monday’s “Imus in the Morning” on the Fox Business Network, the former Clinton adviser said that, based on the May jobs number, if the unemployment picture doesn’t improve, 2012 could be rough for the president.

“Look, I don’t think anybody — if 54,000 new jobs is the new standard, it’s going to be a very, very rough 2012 for President Obama,” Carville said. “But the three-month average was 160,000. If that is the case, then he will do OK. I can’t tell you what will happen. But yes, if this, if this last jobs number is an indication of future job numbers, it’s going to be very, very rough.”

From what I see, Mr. Carville is sure sounding more like a singing canary sent into a coal mine, and as long as the canary kept on singing, the coal miners were able to do their work safe environment. But if that same canary died, it would serve as a WARNING that the coal mine in question MUST BE EVACUATED in an immediate manner.

Mr. Carville has even gone far to even say that this could very much become a “humanitarian” issue and not just both a political and an economic issue.

“You know, look — this is a humanitarian — you know, you’re smart enough to see this,” Carville said. “People, you know, if it continues, we’re going to start to see civil unrest in this country. I hate to say that, but I think it’s imminently possible.”

But considering that there was problems with “flash mobs”  of unemployed minority youths in a number of American cities this recent Memorial Day weekend, as a warning of possible trouble that could come, could the man who made famous the words, “It’s the economy stupid” be America’s new singing canary in the coal mine?

    • Hi:

Frankly, it would NOT SURPRISE me if Mr. Carville said what he said because he has NOT FORGOTTEN how badly treated his home state, LA was treated last year during the horrible oil spill as well as STILL being treated by the embargo on any more futher off shore oil drilling. Mr. Carville still has high regards for his home state and knows how badly treated and still badly treated the “bayou state” is still going through.
