Episcopal Priests Offer “Ashes To Go” As Lent Begins

English: Atlantic Ocean (Feb. 6, 2008) Electro...

More than 70 Episcopal parishes in 18 states will bring Ash Wednesday to the streets, kicking off the Lenten season with a twist.

They’ll offer the Christian sign of repentance — a smudged cross of ashes on the forehead — to anyone who seeks it in train stations, coffee shops and other public spots.

Dubbed Ashes to Go, it’s a contemporary spin on the Ash Wednesday practice followed chiefly in Episcopal, Anglican, Catholic and Lutheran denominations.”

Wow, even an ancient Christian Lenten faith practice has gone 21st century!

Loss For East Hartford, Podunk Bluegrass Festival Decides To Move

Not surprised by decision to move. When word came out today that the Podunk Bluegrass Music Festival was moving to Norwich, to Dodd Stadium, after the departure of the East Hartford Department of Parks and Recreation head Roger Moss.

From the Hartford Courant online website:“The Podunk Bluegrass Festival, which has called East Hartford its home for 16 years, is moving to the Dodd Stadium in Norwich this year.

The Podunk festival, which was named event of the year in 2010 by the International Bluegrass Music Association, will be held from Aug. 2 to 5 in the new location. It was previously held at East Hartford’s Martin Park in the center of town and included on-site camping and workshops.

Roger Moss, the executive director and producer of Podunk and East Hartford’s former parks and recreation director, was recently hired as the City of Norwich‘s recreation director. Moss was asked to resign from his post in November as part of administration changes after Marcia Leclerc was elected mayor.

Moss has overseen Podunk for about 15 years.”

This decision by the Podunk to move to a new location as well as the hiring of Mr. Ross as new parks and recreation head of Norwich could be viewed as a sign that the new East Hartford Mayor, though she is a Democrat, is trying to look good in a major election year in which Democrats are doing nervous sweating about their election chances.
