“Hurricane Irene makes a North Carolina landfall near Cape Lookout bringing hurricane force winds Saturday. The storm started wreaking havoc even before a catastrophic run up the Eastern Seaboard. More than 2 million people were told to move to safer places, and New York City ordered the nation’s biggest subway system shut down for the first time because of a natural disaster.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said the enormous storm had weakened some earlier Saturday morning, but winds topping 80 mph began lashing the shoreline near Jacksonville, N.C., around dawn at 6:15 a.m. Gusts as high as 94 mph were recorded.
Weather Channel Hurricane Expert Dr. Rick Knabb, “Even though this is a Category 1 hurricane, it’s still a large one.”
Prayers for all affected or those who will be affected, including I.
