Calling It A Career, Papa Joe

Calling It A Career, Papa Joe

It is now official: Legendary Penn State University head football Coach Joe “Papa Joe” Paterno is going to be stepping down at the end of this college football season after forty-six years at the helm of Penn State University football.

The football program at Penn State, rocked by a major child sex abuse scandal from a former graduate assistant head, Jerry Sandusky who was involved in a covered-up child sex abuse scandal. This truly had to be very heartbreaking to Coach Paterno himself. As it was present on the ABC News/Yahoo/Good Morning America news article:

“I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case,” Paterno, 84, said in a statement today. “I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief.”

“This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life.  With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more,” he said.

Paterno, who set a record this year as the winningest coach in top-level college football ever, said it has been his intention to “serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care.”

Right now, I am just starting to learn about the details of what had gone on. IMHO, this is going to really, really, leave a BIG BLACK EYE on the image of NCAA college football. This comes also at a very bad time when colleges and universities are changing conferences in regards to college football and other sports.

Also this is a sad sign of the times the United States of America is living in, when persons and institutions that have been given high regards are under attack. At a time when a rising conservative Republican Presidential candidate for the United States White House is under major sexual harassments attacks as well, Herman Cain, with what is going on over at Penn State, the Occupy Wall Street Protests, and a still very divided in the political area United States of America things are sure starting to get BIGTIME UGLY REALLY FAST.

To Coach Papa Joe, thank-you for the memories.
