Raw: Obama Honors UConn Basketball Teams

President Barack Obama welcomed the NCAA Champion UConn Huskies Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams to the White House to honor their 2014 NCAA Championships. (June 9)

Indeed, for only the second time in ten years, in which the same university, Connecticut having had both the men and women’s college basketball teams winning both championships at the end of the NCAA’s college basketball season.

“We Have A Pope!”

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Cardinals elected a new pope to lead the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics on Wednesday, overcoming deep divisions to select the 266th pope in a remarkably fast conclave.

Tens of thousands of people who braved cold rain to watch the smokestack atop the Sistine Chapel jumped in joy when white smoke poured out, many shouting “Habemus Papam!” or “We have a pope!” – as the bells of St. Peter’s Basilica and churches across Rome tolled, signaling a pontiff had been chosen.”

CONGRATS to the NEW POPE and GOD BLESS HIM!

Legend

Legend

When I first heard Saturday afternoon about the sad passing of WTIC AM‘s sports talk host Arnold Dean, at the age of 82 at his home I was both shocked and sadden by his death. For a local radio market, this man was truly a LEGEND for CT, New England, and New York sports news reporting and commentary.

A memory that I do have of Mr. Dean is watching him broadcast from the University of Connecticut football field, better known as Rentcheler Field or the “Rent” in East Hartford, CT, USA before games at the WTIC AM Dog House.

Or the time when I had called his show to offer my objections to the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL trading Wayne Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings and Mr. Dean saying in response to why it was a good idea.

What I will miss about Mr. Dean is how he was very knowledgable not only about his sports subjects, but was very smooth, just like the first cup of coffee in the morning. Plus he was truly also a gentleman and treat his guests and callers as very important.

Sadly with his passing, I and many WTIC AM sports radio show fans and friends of WTIC AM radio will never see the likes of Mr. Dean ever again.

Arnold Dean, THANK-YOU for gracing the greater Hartford, CT, area with your wonderful voice. RIP Arnold Dean

Despite the Daytona 500 was to have begun on this past Sunday, postponed because of rain to Monday, and ending on very early Tuesday morning because of a two hour delay because of a car crashing which also created a fire in turn, for the second time Matt Kenseth wins it.

“It looked like game Sunday Tuesday afternoon as tens of thousands of New York Giants fans — including East Orange natives Naughty By Nature — filled MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford for a rally celebrating the team’s second Superbowl win against the New England Patriots in four years. For loyal New Jersey fans, the rally was a chance for one more tailgate in the season and a chance to cheer team members fresh off the bus from their ticker-tape parade in Manhattan.
