Nations Unhappy About Secret Diplomatic Cables

Once again, Wikileaks had done a HUGH bombshell of a number a large trove of diplomatic information online. The names of individuals and nations was not only very shocking, but very embarrassing as well, and in the end, very damaging in respects to international relations.

From the POLITICO website:”The release — more than a quarter-million back-channel cables that include brutally candid assessments of world leaders and previously undisclosed details of nuclear and antiterrorism activity — represents the most embarrassing and potentially damaging disclosure of American diplomatic material in decades.”

From My Way website:”The weekend release of documents reflecting, in some cases, unflattering assessments of world leaders has caused embarrassment to the administration. The director of the White House’s Office of Management and Budget, Jacob Lew, said in ordering the agency-wide assessment Monday that the disclosures are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

The U.S. cables contained raw comments normally muffled by diplomatic politesse: Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah pressing the U.S. to “cut off the head of the snake” by taking action against Iran’s nuclear program. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi described as “feckless” and “vain.” German Chancellor Angela Merkel dismissed as “risk averse and rarely creative.”

Publication of the secret memos and documents made public by the online whistle-blower Wikileaks Sunday amplified widespread global alarm about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. It also unveiled occasional U.S. pressure tactics aimed at hot spots in Afghanistan, Pakistan and North Korea. The leaks disclosed bluntly candid impressions from both diplomats and other world leaders about America’s allies and foes.

It was, said Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, the “Sept. 11 of world diplomacy.”

Even people who are in the USA House or Senate have been very outspoken on this very troubling turn of events:Rep. Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, the senior Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, has called this massive release of these diplomatic cables, “very damaging.”

“The catastrophic issue here is just a breakdown in trust,” he said Monday, adding that many other countries – allies and foes alike – are likely to ask, ‘Can the United States be trusted? Can the United States keep a secret?'”

From both Sens. Claire McCaskill, (D/MO) and Lindsey Graham, (R/SC), have both CALLED for the Wikileakers to be subjected to prosecution. ““Leaking the material is deplorable,” Graham told Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”

“The people at WikiLeaks could have blood on their hands,” he said, before admitting he wasn’t sure how the dump would affect the country’s strategic negotiations abroad.

“I don’t know what the cables may say, but we’re at war,” Graham said. “The world is getting dangerous by the day. People who do this are low on the food chain as far as I’m concerned. If you can prosecute them, let’s try.”

McCaskill agreed, saying “the people who do these document leaks need to do a gut check about their patriotism.”

“I hope we can find out where this is coming from and go after them with the force of law,” McCaskill said.”

What Wikileaks has done, in an MUCH EARLY TIME, could not only have gotten the person who runs Wikileaks, Julian Assange, and those who had helped him, not only in trouble with the law and “prosecuted”, but even be considered a death penalty offense for “treason”. As it stands, this will be the cause of the deaths of so many of our armed forces people and the people of other nations who have been helping our armed forces people as well as our American diplomats.

America right now is going to have to do A LOT OF DAMAGE CONTROL BIGTIME in the area of working with other nations in the global war against terrorism. The sad reality is that, trust in what the USA can do, is the newest VICTIM in this major global war.
